Food: The Other Big Climate Lever
About this event
Join us at the Centre for International Governance Innovation to explore the intersection of the climate crisis and food. Any discussion about the climate crisis needs to talk about food. Agri-food GHG emissions remain stubborn, agriculture is the leading cause of global deforestation, and the food system is the primary driver of global biodiversity loss. BUT agriculture can also act as a carbon sink, provide biodiversity and ecosystem services, support First Nations food sovereignty, and even contribute to the energy transition – all while feeding over 8 billion people. This Canadian Climate Week event brings together the worlds of climate and agri-food to share the opportunities — and challenges — of agri-food in the age of climate change.
